TO MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL 

As you are aware the sharp appreciation of Indian Rupee against US$ has seriously affected the export activity in MMF Textile Sector.  The Council has been taking up the matter at appropriate levels in the Government to mitigate hardship faced by the exporters.  The Government has constituted a committee to look into the problem and suggest suitable measures.  In this regard, the Council needs feedback from the member companies to quantify the impact of rupee appreciation and appropriately make the suggestions to the Government.  We therefore request you to provide us the following information:

 

1) Name of the Company;
2) Exports of MMF Textiles during 2006-07;
3) Shipments of MMF Textiles during April-May 2007;
4) Cancellation of shipments, if any, during last two months due to rupee appreciation (in US$);
5) Cancellation of booking/contracts, if any, due to rupee appreciation (in US$);
6) Whether any unit/production line have been closed recently due to rupee appreciation;
7) Number of workers laid off in the last 3 months;
8) Any other suitable information which may indicate adverse effect of rupee appreciation ;
