Ref.No. TD/SA/07/193
16th
January, 2007 TO MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL Dear Sir/s, Indian
Textile Exhibition & Buyer-Seller Meet (BSM) in The Council proposes to participate in a Joint
Exhibition of textiles in South Africa during March/April 2007. The
Exhibition will be held in three centres viz. Johannesburg, Durban and
Cape Town in which a combined presentation of textiles and garments of
India will be displayed. South Africa is a leading market for Indian
Synthetic & Rayon textiles which registered an increase of 17% in
exports during 2005-06 with a performance exceeding Rs.100 crores.
Fabrics, Yarn and Made-ups are the major items of exports. Our exports,
however, account for only a small share in the overall import of these
textiles into the country. The holding of this Exhibition and BSM
assumes further significance in view of the imposition of quota
restrictions by the South African Government on import of textiles and
clothing originating from China. Following the imposition of these
restrictions, the Consulate General of India in South Africa has advised
that an exclusive show of Indian textiles should be organized to take
advantage of the emerging situation. The Exhibition will provide a
unique opportunity for the Indian companies to showcase their products
among the prospective customers and explore business opportunities in
this promising market. The event will be supported by the Indian
Consulate and widely publicized among the importers, garment producers,
wholesalers, etc. in South Africa. As per the programme, the Exhibition will be
organized in Johannesburg on 28th & 29th March,
Durban 2nd and 3rd April, and Cape Town, 5th
and 6th April, 2007. The participation fee in the Exhibition
is being assessed and will be conveyed to you shortly. In the meanwhile, members interested in taking part
in this exclusive Combined Exhibition of Indian textiles in South Africa
are requested to contact the Council at the earliest for further
information. Thanking you, Yours faithfully,
