Participation in Indian Textile Exhibition in Barcelona, Spain:

26 - 27 November 2007

Please refer to our Circular no. TD/Spain/294 dated 28^th September 2007 regarding Council’s proposed exhibition in Spain. We would like to inform you that our exclusive exhibition will now be held in Hotel Icaria in Barcelona, Spain on 26-27^th November 2007. The proposed exhibition in Madrid has been cancelled due to logistical problems.

The exhibition will provide members a unique opportunity to explore this market and to expand their exports. It will also help exporters to establish business contacts with leading importers in Spain; to study their requirements and negotiate on-the spot business deals. It is also intended to create increased awareness about the capabilities of Indian MMF textile sector to cater to their requirements.

The participants can avail of the financial subsidy upto Rs 80,000/- towards reimbursement of the participation fee from the MDA Scheme subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria. Details of the MDA scheme are available on Council's website or can be had from the Council on request.

MARKET POTENTIAL

Spain is the fifth largest retail market in Europe. The Spanish retail industry is rapidly changing from traditional structure, dominated by small, often family owned stores, to modern shopping environments with new retail formats operated by large, foreign owned multiple groups. Though the textile and apparel sector in Spain is modern and rapidly growing, it has been importing large quantities of textiles to meet the growing demand. Main suppliers of textile & clothing products to the Spanish market are China, Italy, Portugal, Morocco, France, Germany, Turkey, India, Vietnam, The Netherlands, and U.K. Spain applies EU’s Common Customs Tariff for third country imports. The import duty in EU on MMF yarn is 4%, fabrics: 8% and Made-ups: 8-12%.

Spain is one of the leading markets for Indian MMF Textiles accounting for an export of Rs. 264 crores during 2006-07. The main items being exported presently are Polyester Cotton Yarn, Polyester Filament Yarn, Polyester Spun Yarn, Polyester Viscose Yarn, Acrylic Spun Yarn, Viscose Filament Yarn, Viscose Spun Yarn, Shawls/Scarves, Dress Materials, Furnishing Articles, Polyester Filament Fabrics, Polyester Wool Fabrics & Viscose Staple Fibre.

EXHIBITION

The Exhibition will be widely publicised in Spain through direct mails, flyers, Brochures and advertisements in leading newspapers so as to attract large numbers of business visitors including textile Importers, Retail chains, Agents, Textile Mills, Ready Made Garment producers etc there. An event management company has been engaged for promotion of our exhibition.

PARTICIPATION

The participation fee for the exhibition will be Rs. 1,45,000/-. The participants will be provided with individual stalls admeasuring 9 Sq.mts. with standard accessories for display. The Council will also arrange to obtain recommendations for Visa to the representatives (not more than two) who will be attending the Exhibition, as also assist in booking Hotel Accommodation. Please note that all the expenses on airfare; hotel etc. would be met by participants.

Members interested in participating in the above exhibition are requested to return the attached Application Form duly filled-in along with application fee of Rs.1,45,000/- by Cheque (D/D for outstation Companies) in favour of “The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council” payable at Mumbai before 31^st October 2007.
