TO MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL

Re : Invitation to participate in the Indian Textile Exhibition Organized by the Council in Sana, Yemen – November / December 2007.

We are glad to inform you that the Council proposes to organize an exclusive 2-day Exhibition in association with the Embassy of India and with the support of the local Trade Body in Yemen during November / December 2007 as part of its efforts to develop exports of MMF textiles to this market.

This event is being organized under the “Focus : Africa : (WANA Countries)” scheme, which was formulated by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India with a view to significantly enhance India’s trade in this region.

Marketing Development Assistance (MDA) : It may be mentioned that the member-exporters, participating in this exhibition are eligible to claim a maximum amount of Rs.1.50 lakhs under the “Focus Africa : Wana Countries scheme” of MDA for their participation subject to the fulfillment of certain conditions.

Market Potential :  Indo-Yemeni relations date back to ancient times.  The historical ties between India and Yemen are confirmed by the fact that even today there are about one hundred thousand persons of Yemeni origin in India and equal number of people of Indian origin in Yemen.    Yemeni traders were intermediaries for Indian trade with the Roman Empire.  There are ample opportunities for doing business in the Republic of Yemen.  Strategically positioned, potential investors are able to easily base their operations in Yemen to enter neighboring markets also.

As Yemen doesn’t have any significant production base of textiles, its requirements of clothing / textiles are mostly met through imports.  Export of man-made fibre textiles from India to Yemen is valued over Rs.100 crores annually, and it consists of fabrics / made-ups & yarns.  Fabrics alone account for over 60%  of our exports of these textiles to Yemen.  Our export-trade to this market is constantly growing, but considering the traditional ties and the requirement of the market, we feel that there is scope for further expansion by highlighting our existing range of products and our capabilities.  The main products being exported presently to Yemen include polyester filament fabrics, nylon viscose fabrics, polyester spun fabrics and various ladies dress materials, polyester viscose yarn etc.

Objectives :  The Programme is aimed at :

·        Making a strong effort to develop / expand our trade in untapped Yemen market.

·        Providing opportunities to meet the prospective buyers / agents to create awareness regarding our wide range of products, and generate business enquiries.

·        To help the existing exporters to this market to expand their contacts and give opportunity to the new entrants to establish contacts with buyers.

·        To understand the specific requirements of the prospective buyers / consumers and identify consumer preferences.

Venue :   The exhibition will be held in a centrally located business class hotel.  This event will be an exclusive programme, the participants (only member-exporters of the council) will get an undivided attention of buyers / visitors during the events, and hence this will be a “not-to-be-missed” opportunity to the members to explore and expand their export-trade to this market in a big way.

Publicity :  The Council will give special promotional support for participating companies by way of advertisements, publicity folders, direct mail etc with the help of Professional Consultancy Agency and active assistance and guidance of the concerned Indian Mission to ensure visit of prospective buyers to the exhibition.

Participation Fee : The participation fee for the exhibition is being worked out with the concerned Embassy of India and the PR Agency, and the same will be informed to you in due course.  Meanwhile, members interested in participating in the above exhibition are requested to send an advance of Rs.50,000/- by cheque (DD for outstation companies) in favour of “the Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council” payable at Mumbai.  In this context, kindly be assured that in case the final dates & the actual amount of participation fee do not appear to be suitable for your participation, your amount of advance payment of Rs.50,000/- will be refunded to you immediately.

Terms and Conditions of participation :

Ø     Participants will be given ready exhibition booths of 9 sq.mtrs each with necessary furnitures, display-props, lights etc. to display their products and conduct meetings with buyers.

Ø     The participation fee, as mentioned above, doesn’t include the expenses of the representative(s) of the firms like airfares, hotel expenses etc.

Ø     Each selected company will have to depute a senior executive to the shows at its own cost.

Ø     The Council will select 20 companies for participation in the exhibitions on first-come-first-served basis considering limitations of space.

Ø     The Council will also arrange to obtain recommendations for Visa to the representatives (not more than two) and also assist in booking Hotel accommodation with the help of Indian Mission.

How to apply :  Members, who are interested in participating in this exhibition, are requested to send their applications in the enclosed “Reply Form” alongwith a Cheque / DD  (for outstation applicants) of Rs. 50,000/- as mentioned above on or before 20th October 2007.

Awaiting your response and thanking you,

Yours faithfully,
