Dear Sir/ Madam,
Sub: Sea freight Rates after Red Sea Crisis began
As you are aware , since the last few days cargo ships passing through the Red Sea are being attacked by militants. Red sea is one of the busiest trade routes that connects Europe and Asia through the Suez Canal.
As a result of the attacks, Ships are reportedly taking a 6000 nautical miles detour around Africa which is leading to an additional 15 days transit time and causing steep increase in the sea freight rates.
In view of the above, the Council has represented to the Government on this important issue and has sought support for the exporters of Textiles & Clothing to overcome the situation and sustain in exports.
Furtherance to our representation, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry has sought from the Council details of increase in sea freight rates for various ports in Europe and other Countries from India.
